1940 Elgin Twin :

The Twin models were some of the more interesting bikes of the late 1930's and early 1940's.  They touted the lack of frame joints and the "Suspension bridge construction".   Different models were outfitted with different accessories including headlights, tail lights, chain guards, rear carriers and speedometers.  This bike would have had twin headlights, one on either side of the head tube shroud, but they are missing.  It may have also had a rear carrier at one time.  From the catalogs, it appears as if this should be a 1939-1940 model but it doesn't match up exactly with either catalog.  1940 appears to be the introduction of the twin headlights but is uses a contrasting color for the fenders while the 1939 bikes used frame colored fenders.  Hard to tell, but either way, a pretty interesting bike.
