1993 Gary Fisher Alembic

The Alembics started showing up as prototypes in 1992 and were promised for 1993 delivery.  Fisher had set production at 170 bikes at a retail price of approximately $5,500 but there were only 7 prototypes ever produced.  The frame was designed by Stephen Wilde and sent to Toray, a carbon specialist in Japan.  They returned an aluminum and Bondo prototype which was modified and returned.  Toray made a mold off of the modified frame at the cost of $85,000.  Fisher was bought by Trek at about this time which ended the project with just the 7 prototypes being produced.
