Cackalacky Cup

Cackalacky 2010

As usual, we took a pre-ride of the planned ride 2 weeks in advance.  We went up to Turkey Pen Gap to scout the course.  The "road" to the trail head was narrow and deeply rutted.  It was an nice trail but there was a fair amount of hike-a-bike.  On the way home, we discussed the route and decided it was better to look at a different trail.  The access road was poor and we are never sure who is going to come ride with us.

The week heading into the Cackalacky Time Trials was pretty rainy and the trail had been closed.  As we neared Saturday, it was pretty iffy on whether the trail would be open.  Fortunately, the weather cleared up enough on Friday and we were able to hold the event!  Unfortunately, I think attendance was held down since a good number of riders hold off to the last minute before registering.  Due to park rules and the format of the event, we can't take on site registrations.   The turnout was a little light but we had a great event followed by lunch at the picnic shelter.  The 2010 Itusi Time Trial results are available HERE

On Sunday,  We loaded up and headed to the Pisgah Forest and rode a nice loop starting at the horse stables.  This was a loop that we had previously ridden so we knew it was a little friendlier for a bigger range of skills.  The ride was followed up by the traditional Taco Bell stop!

"I think a lot of people harbor some guilt, even if it’s not on the surface, for living unsustainable lifestyles; bikes give people the opportunity to make a part of their life more sustainable." Charlie Cunningham
