I find the evolution of the mountain bike to be a very interesting subject.  Many of the "new" innovations are recycled ideas that date back 100 years.  Each new innovation brings about some wild ideas.  Each time there is a new innovation, there seems to be a period where many things are tried and they sort themselves out to a couple of standards.  When mountain bikes started there were different experiments with geometry's and wheel sizes.  Now most bikes sport similar geometry's and 26" wheels.  When front suspension was introduced many different ideas were tried (inverted, HeadShok, linkage..)  Most forks now use the "Rock Shox" standard model.  Rear suspension is the latest battleground.   I will try to add pages to trace the developments of each as time allows.

We recently got together with Panaracer to make a brand new batch of Timbuk II tires.  This was one of the more popular tires in the late 1980's and early 1990's and is now available in a 26 x 2.0" version with a folding (Kevlar) bead with the natural (tan) color sidewalls..  We weighed a handful of the tires and they mostly fall within 10 grams either way of 545 grams.  Great tires to maintain the look of your classic bike or a great way to give your new ride a new look.  $29.99 each.
