Iredell County is home to some great Mountain Bike Trails, many of which First Flight Bikes is proud to have helped create. You'll find the Trailhead location here as well as Trail Maps.
Bigleaf Slopes Trail
Bigleaf Slopes Park is a Mountain Bike and Multi-use Trail Park owned by Iredell County, in Statesville, North Carolina. The trail is currently under construction but we hope to open a small loop by the Spring of 2016. After the initial loop is open, more loops will be added. Integration to the local greenway is also panned as well as other activities. If you are interested in helping at the Park please let Wes at First Flight Bicycles know. The park is named for the Big Leaf Magnolia which is rare in our area but there are many of the trees in the park.

Itusi Mountain Bike Trail
Consisting of 8 stacked loops, the 30.5 mile Itusi Trail at Lake Norman State Park has something for beginners to advanced riders. The Hawk (3 miles), Hicks Creek(1 mile) and Norwood Creek (2.5 miles) loops opened in 2003. The 6 mile Monbo loop opened in spring of 2007. Spring of 2010 welcomed the opening of the 5 mile Laurel Loop which was expanded in 2012 which upped the mileage 9.75 miles. More additions in 2012 included the Fallstown (1.25 miles), Fox (2.5 miles) and the Wildlife (4.25 miles) loops to the trail system.

Signal Hill Mountain Bike Trail
Started in the mid 1990's, Signal Hill has undergone many changes but continues to offer a great ride. With a lot of quick, twisty and moderately hilly single track, what the trail lacks in technical aspects is more than made up for in sheer fun! Jumps and multiple options while on the trail and a pump track / jump line keep the possibilities open. The main loop is 3 miles long with a 1 mile optional loop (Circuit City). Signal Hill is a great local community trail and there is also 9 holes of the Statesville Disc Golf course intertwined with the trail.

Weekly mountain bike ride: Meet at First Flight Bicycles, during the Spring/Summer months, we try to do a 35-40 mile road ride once the days are long enough. Average 18-19 mph for a quick fitness paced ride. During the Fall/Winter months we have a 12-17 mile mountain bike ride to Signal Hill for a couple laps and back. All Tuesday rides leave at 6PM and figure on a 1.5 - 2 hour ride. . Call First Flight Bicycles for updates on the ride, (704)878-9683.
Weekly mountain bike ride: For the months of May, June, July, August, September and October we will be riding the Itusi Trail if it is open. November through April we usually ride the Signal Hill Trail. Typical ride distance will be 12-17 miles with a duation of about 1.5 - 2 hours. If trails are closed, we often do indoor trainer rides. Load up the trainer and c'mon by. Any questions, call (704)878-9683 for ride details.
Weekly road bike ride: Road ride will start late March 2017, please check back for the schedule. Leave from the shop at 8:00am sharp.Over the years, the focus of the Saturday morning ride has always been to offer a fun, casual, no drop ride. Last year, we saw a much wider range of riders showing up. We want to offer rides for all skills levels so we will have two options with both groups doing the same route. The faster group (18-19 mph average) will be a friendly ride but we will not wait at every intersection. If a rider falls too far behind they will have to finish by themselves, with others who drop or wait for the slower group. We would like to emphasize that this is not a race group. The slower group (15-16 mph average) will be volunteer led and follow the same route as the faster group. This will be a no-drop group so it is perfect for beginners. If you would like to volunteer to help lead, please let us know. We will alternate through 6 different routes above with the dates for that route.
